IDRA World Congress 2026 to Advance Global Desalination and Water Reuse

The global water industry is preparing for one of its major international gatherings of 2026. The IDRA World Congress 2026 will take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from November 1 to 5 under the theme Driving Global Water Sustainability Through Innovation.

Hosted by the Saudi Water Authority under the patronage of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, the Congress will bring together policymakers, utilities, researchers, technology providers, investors and water treatment professionals from around the world.

A Global Program Focused on Practical Water Solutions

The preliminary program includes more than 200 peer reviewed technical presentations and 25 plenary sessions. More than 300 abstracts from over 48 countries were reviewed during the program selection process. The program covers process design, environmental management, energy efficiency, digital innovation, water reuse and advanced desalination technologies.

Reverse Osmosis and Membrane Technology

Reverse osmosis will be central to the technical discussions. Scheduled topics include membrane development, hybrid membrane processes, batch and closed circuit reverse osmosis, high recovery system configurations, pretreatment design, remineralization and full scale plant upgrades.

These topics reflect the direction of the international water treatment market. Customers increasingly require membrane systems that provide stable salt rejection, higher water recovery, lower energy consumption and longer operating life.

Water Reuse and Concentrate Management

The Congress will examine the expansion of municipal and industrial water reuse. Sessions will address direct potable reuse, circular water management and the regulatory frameworks required to implement reuse projects safely.

Environmental topics will include brine valorization, zero liquid discharge, recovery of minerals and critical materials from concentrate streams, and methods for reducing the environmental impact of desalination.

Energy Efficiency and Digital Operation

Reducing the energy consumption of desalination remains a global priority. The program includes energy recovery devices, next generation pressure exchangers, renewable energy integration and the relationship between water production and low carbon energy systems.

Artificial intelligence, digital monitoring and data driven process control will also be discussed as tools for improving system reliability, predicting membrane performance and reducing operating costs.
